These are accounts that were used for trading. Since the 16th century, ships bound for Africa and the Americas were supplied with huge quantities of them. On the outward journey, they were used as ballast and upon arrival they were used to barter for spices, textiles, precious metals, and even slaves. A currency that worked on most borders. These rings are made of beads that come from Mali.
